Wakefield Trinity Stadium signage.

HG Graphics have helped Wakefield Trinity refurbish their stadium and get it ready for the new upcoming season.

Wakefield Trinity, a professional rugby league team in West Yorkshire came to HG Graphics following the end of their rugby season wanting to utilise a number of services of the team. This ranged from the installation of signage, banners, vinyl lettering, scaffolding banners and more!

The sheer scope of the job, coupled with the pressing deadline of the job was going to make this job a challenging one, but here at Team HG!, we love a challenge and got on with the job in hand.

Objective

Wakefield Trinity had the objective of renovating their stadium in the off season, in preparation for the commencing of the brand-new season.

Challenge

The main challenge was the sheer size of the task, as well as fitting in jobs where possible because of training, preseason friendlies and other events that were ongoing.

Solution

The key to the success of this job was project management and planning, ensuring that we had the right processes in places to complete all the jobs on time.

AEG Banner

For this task, the HG team were required to install 3 whopping sized promotional banners for the stadium, which span across the north stand of the stadium. The banners measured an incredible 22m x 2m, requiring all members of our team to get involved on the job.

The main challenge here was that we had a frame that we needed to fit the banner into, which required two members of the team to constantly hold the banner whilst the other two installed.

Despite the size and intricacies of the job, the lads worked together to get it done in just 3 days.

Scaffolding banner

The banner type of work at the Trinity Stadium didn’t stop there either!

The club also required some scaffolding banners to be installed, 17 in total, with 13 on the front and 2 on each side, which included the clubs logo, and a row of players from the team imposed on the banners.

To get the finished result our client wanted, we used a high-resolution digitally printed standard mesh (ultramesh premium), with reinforced welding tape hems all around, with us zip tying through the eyelets onto the scaffolding.

To get the 17 x 5.5 metre banners installed took our team just 2 days to install.

Neil Fox MBE stand

From banner installation to vinyl lettering.

The next task in hand here was that vinyl lettering was required to be installed across the top of the Neil Fox stand. Following the prep of materials, our very own Kyle and Blaine battled the strong, windy conditions to install the lettering whilst being suspended 13 metres in the air.

Taking just half a day to complete, 20 metres of wide of lettering was installed, just in time for the grand opened of the stand at a recent charity match.

MKM Board

The variance of this job continued, when the Stadium then asked us to install a sponsor’s board to the exterior of the building.

Not only did the lads need to install the board which spanned 6.5 metres wide and 3.5 metres tall (securing it to the building via a Re-bar), internal lighting was also required to go behind the banner to ensure it’s kept in the spotlight at all times. The final part of this job was to layer the print to go over the lighting and display the board.

In total, this took 2 days to complete.

Signs around trinity (40+)

The final task we had to complete at Wakefield Trinity was the installation of 40 signs within the premises. A task which on face value seems a fairly easy one, however, we had the caveat of having to get these installed in just 1 day ready for the 8pm kick off that very evening.

With a whole range of signs to install, our whole team (Gav, Kyle, Blaine, Jacob and Stephen) all got to work on this one, making a start at 7:30am, managing to get this job done in just 10 hours, well in time for the kick off later that evening.

We were even invited into a box to watch the game afterwards, which was a great touch from Wakefield Trinity!

Project Review

The Challenge

The main challenge was the sheer size of the task, as well as fitting in jobs where possible because of training, preseason friendlies and other events that were on going. As a company, we were given the dates of the 23rd of January and 15th of March to start and get this job done, with the added caveat of breaks needed, as there were some off-season games played within these dates too.

The Solution

In true Team HG! fashion, we managed to pull this job off, and this project really does optimise the hard work and dedication that lies within the HG team. Over the course of this job, long hours were the norm with the team starting as early as 6am to ensure we got as much work done as possible before the stadium closed for that given day.

We really do pride ourselves on being project management experts, and again this project was a great example of this, with us needing to carefully plan out all the different jobs that needed completing by the 15th of March deadline outlined. From an installation point of view, Kyle did a brilliant job of taking the charge on site to make sure the process went as smooth as possible.

Conclusion

Despite the challenges and hard work this project for Wakefield Trinity has been to pull off, it really is a job we look back with pride, and once again showcases the different services we can offer here at Team HG.
