BT Immersive Classroom

Team HG have helped Full 3 Sixty in the process of getting one of their BT immersive classroom projects up and running by wrapping the exterior of the cabin in a branded digital print.

The BT Immersive classrooms are the UK’s very first 5G-enabled classrooms that are developed to create a 360-learning environment to help schools stand out from the crowd providing experiences in which learners can not only observe but see and feel what it’s like to be there.

This is the second project HG have done with Full 3 Sixty, having already completing an exterior digital wrap on a previous BT immersive classroom.

Objective

A digital print wrap was required on the exterior of an immersive classroom for BT.

Challenge

Once the project got the sign off from the Welsh government, the turnround of the project itself was incredibly quick, requiring efficient and accurate work from the HG team.

Solution

Following the successful completion of a previous Immersive class, the services of HG were once again required to complete this project.

The Demands

‘’As this wasn’t the first BT immersive classroom we had done, we were very confident that we could pull this project off. This particular job had been in the pipeline for many months before signing off, we were just waiting on approval from the Welsh government. When the project did get signed off, following a huge delay, the knock-on effect of this was that the turnaround needed to be mega quick as our client needed the classroom ASAP!’’ Said Gavin, Owner of HG Graphics

Gavin continued ‘‘We had to set up the provided artwork to the customers technical drawings as the cabin had not been built yet. The original plan was to wrap the unit once it had been built in Bridlington before been transported to Wales, however due to lack of time due to the build taking longer than expected, we were asked to wrap the panels on site, which brought challenges to the project.’’

The Project and its Challenges

As touched upon, when it came to the project itself, there was a lot of challenges that Team HG had to overcome. These challenges even started before the team got to site! With the top computers at HQ struggling to deal with the size of the artwork for this project, and then there was even a struggled to get there, with HG’s van struggling to get down the Welsh country roads.

As mentioned, the installation had to be conducted on site which caused issues immediately for the HG team.

‘’When we arrived at the site, we quickly worked out that some of the metal panels had been built to the wrong sizes that were documented on the original technical drawings which meant that some of the prints did not accurately fit. So, we had to then reset the artwork up to the new sizes, reprint them, to then go back to site to fit again.’’ Said Gavin.

Gavin Continued ‘’Another challenge we had to come up against was that there was a lack of lighting in the unit where the cabin was being built, so there was limited time during the day to fit as the floodlights we had weren’t quite cutting it, with the added problem of having to deal with other tradesmen being around building on site too.’’

Even when the application was done, more challenges encountered, with a change to the artwork also being required (after sign off and completion) which resulted in a side of the classroom having to be stripped and a new print had to be reapplied to that side.

The project itself took 3 days with 2 of the Team HG installation team working on the project, with around 140m’s worth of material used, which included reprints.

Despite all of this, the team managed to overcome this and get the project completed inside the deadline outlined by the client, with the client delighted with the results, and it’s very easy to see why.

UK Graphic Awards

To reemphasise the quality of the results, the project was nominated for the Leisure & Hospitality segment of the UK Graphic Awards that were held at the Manchester Hilton Deansgate Hotel on the 5th of October.

Although the team didn’t manage to pick up an award from the 5-company shortlist, to be shortlisted alone is a great achievement and shows how great of a project it really was.

The project really does encapsulate everything HG are all about, and homes in the skills the team have too. From the project management skills to the printing capabilities, as well as the flexibility shown to get the project turnaround before the deadline despite all of the hurdles that came the team’s way.
