The HG team headed to the Manchester Hilton Deansgate Hotel on the 5th of October for the UK Graphic Awards, and what a night we had!
The eagerly anticipated night was a historic one for us at HG as we had not one but two nominations for an award for the very first time. More on that later.
The whole night was superb from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, and we did what we love to do here at HG every so often and enjoyed a few drinks too (well those who weren’t driving did anyway ha-ha!).
Familiar Faces
Seeing familiar faces really does help make the evening what it is, and it’s fantastic to chat other likeminded people in the industry, sharing our own stories and experiences!
We’d only just stepped through door of the venue when we bumped into our supply partners William Smith Group 1832, whom we have had a great relationship with since the inception of HG, it was great to see so many of the team there. We shared our table with Revolutions Signs Limited, and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Braintree based printing services team.
The Nominations
As mentioned, the HG Team were nominated for two awards… ‘’Leisure & Hospitality’’ and ‘Rising Star’’. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to come away with a win, but we are certainly more than proud of our efforts over the last year.
Leisure & Hospitality
The first award the team were nominated for was a project conducted by the HG Surface arm of our business where we helped create a BT Immersive Classroom in Wales.
This project really did encapsulate everything HG are about, from our project managerial skills to our printing capabilities, not forgetting our ability to meet a tight deadline and deliver a perfect application. Although we didn’t manage to pick up the award from the 5 company shortlist, we look back on this project with a lot of fondness.
Blaine
Blaine was nominated for the rising star award, and although he didn’t pick up the award, he is very much our rising star!
Blaine’s learnt so much in the last 2 years with us, where he has developed from a boy to a young man. His career has gone from strength to strength with us and is our main installers right hand man and well on his way to becoming an established wrapper. Over his spell at HG, he’s worked on some of our biggest projects to date, from wrapping showroom cladding to hotel interior furniture (architectural) and much more! We genuinely can’t wait to see what’s next for Blaine.
Lauren, Director of HG Surface added: ‘’Although we didn’t win, we think it’s a huge achievement to be shortlisted. For a company of only 7 individuals under 32 years of age we feel we didn’t do too bad and genuinely had a great evening.’’
Girl Power
It was great to see so many women at the awards too! Although we love the industry we work in, there is undoubtedly a stigma when it comes to women in the print & signage industry. Despite the number of women working in the industry unquestionably being on the rise, there is no question that it is very much a male dominated environment. It was a breath of fresh air to see women representing and prospering in this industry, and it can only encourage the next generation to make strides in this line of work in the years to come.
See you next year!
There is no rest for the wicked though, as the HG Team were straight back to work the next day feeling inspired and motivated to ensure the team come back with some awards next year!
